Love Covers a Multitude of Sins

How important is LOVE to the Christian life and witness? In his first letter Peter writes, “...above all, have fervent love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins...”. It is clear in the context Peter is challenging us, as brothers and sisters in Christ, to cover one-another’s sins. Anyone who has been an honest Christian long enough realizes that we all still sin. Proverbs advises “Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions.” While the wicked are motivated by hatred, animosity and rejection, the righteous are motivated by Love. While hate scrutinizes and overstates another person‘s faults, Love moves in forgiveness and seeks a way to screen another’s transgressions. To cover sin is to forgive sin. Jesus in John 13 commanded us to love one another: “As I have loved you so you must love one another.” Jesus told us loving one another would be our great witness to the world testifying of the genuineness of our faith. Paul put it this way: “Without love you ain’t nothing.” And Love finds its greatest expression in the forgiveness of sin. The world is a place full of judging and judgements. The witness for the gospel’s changing power is displayed through our loving forgiveness and the way we reflect the Father’s love. For God, in his desire to forgive us our sins, sent his only unique Son so that whoever believes and trusts in Him should not perish but gain eternal life. Jesus told us the story of the sevens: “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times? “Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seven times seventy.”

Just think...... the positive financial impact of churches in the US is 2.1 Trillion dollars per year, that's correct, TRILLION
