Kitchen Remodel 2018

On April 15, 2018  after the worship service our church held a Church Conference to vote on the Kitchen Renovation project that we have been working on for over a year.  The members present unanimously approved the project and the budget to remodel the church kitchen. Thanks were given to Marie Marsh and Faye Ward for their untiring service as Chairmen of the Bereavement Dinner Committee and the Other Meals/Special Occasions Committee. They both served as consultants to the House and Grounds Committee during the design phase of the project.

Since Marie was a little under the weather, the motion to proceed with the project was made by Faye Ward and on behalf of Marie Marsh. Thanks to all the men and women who help with dinners at FBC and we hope you have a brand new shiny kitchen very soon!

Also, thanks Tommy Emerson for your Children's Sermon topic on it is better to give than to receive, using the building fund as a focus for the message. Tommy gave all the children $1.00 which they put into a Building Fund envelope and placed in the offering plate.  Great examples for all of us!

If you are ready to contribute to the project, please mark your checks kitchen fund. There are Building Fund envelopes and pledge cards available at the church office and around the church.

This is the wall to the left when you come into the fellowship hall from outside. The sheet rock area is replacing the second door that went into the kitchen. The door is the original hall door, which will now be the main door into the kitchen

This photo is taken from the Smith and Buckner side of the fellowship hall. The area extending into the fellowship hall is the old stage area which will now be the serving area. For size perspective, the opening into the serving area is 12 feet wide.

This photo is taken in the hall headed from the Sunday School area into the fellowship hall. The new construction is a new storage area which be accessed from the serving area of the kitchen. This area used to house the steps to the stage with a hand railing and a piano sat in this space

6-1-18 The Plumbing raises its ugly head!

We always knew that the plumbing would be the unknown in the renovation project.  It has raised its ugly head.

This photo shows the kitchen floor as of noon on Friday 6-1-18. Lots of unknown pipes and questions under the floor. If you haven't written your check for the project - now would be a great time!

Great news - the plumbing drains are all connected and the concrete is poured and the kitchen is beginning to look like the vision we have for it. This photo is taken standing in the back of the "old kitchen" looking toward the "old stage area". Part of the wall is gone that was creating a hall and the door you see is the old door to the stage which has been widened 6 inches.

8-23-18 FRP Boards in place and Tile Coming Along

The kitchen remodel project is moving along.  The FRP (fiberglass re-enforced panels) wall coverings have covered the walls in the kitchen, serving area, and new storage closet. Both the plumbing and electrical services have passed the rough in inspection by the building inspector. The exhaust hoods have been installed.  The air conditioner and heating unit for the kitchen have been ordered.  The cabinets and appliances are ordered.  The week of August 20th has seen the ceramic tile being added.  The majority of the kitchen floor has been covered and now hold the tile cutters for all the trim work.

8-30-18 Appliances Delivered

Wow - the progress is amazing!  Today the appliances were delivered, the sinks and tables have been ordered, new LED light fixtures are in place in the ceiling, and the air conditioner/heater for the kitchen is on its pad outside the kitchen.  Stay tuned for more progress. The first photograph on the first row shows the two 5 burner stoves, the double wall ovens, and the beginning work on the air. This photograph shows the new stainless steel freezer with the dishwasher (turned backwards) awaiting its installation. The existing commercial stainless refrigerator will soon return from its temporary home in the fellowship hall.

This photo shows the new mini-split air and heat unit.  The old kitchen had a window unit and no supplemental heat.  The new unit was required due to space constraints in the ceiling of the kitchen.  The serving area will be cooled by additional vents piped from the existing air handler in the fellowship hall. The unit on the left currently serves the Prayer Room and the new unit is on the right.
